These are original British issue 'target indicators' or as they are more properly titled 'Pointer Staff's'. They are made from phosphated steel sheet stamped out and jointed by rivets. These were first issued during WW2, primarily to Vickers MG crews, and were still on limited issue until the 1990's. The pointer staff folds up into its own handle. This device is illustrated and described in GOL, Chapter 15, Page 487, although interestingly the photo showing the device in use is obviously posed using soldiers unfamiliar with its use as its user is looking through the wrong arm! The examples offered here are undated (it is not usual to find any markings on these items) and in new & unissued condition. Unit of sale 1. Stock No 34/22.
