This is an original British Issue 'Cramp Foresight Adjusting No4 for Rifles No5'. The adjusting tool for zeroing the .303" Lee Enfield Rifle No5, also known as the Jungle Carbine.

The cramp body is machined from a solid block of tool steel and is designed to slide over the flash hider cone and integral foresight protector so as to position the adjusting screws so that they can bear on either side of the foresight blade through the holes in the 'ears' of the protector. This tool is in very good condition with the majority of the original black finish intact. It is undated but stamped with 'W /I\ D' on the rear face.

To use the tool, having determined the lateral adjustment to be made; ensure that the rifle is UNLOADED. Place the tool over the foresight and carefully do up the two adjusting screws until each one just touches the side of the foresight blade. The sight should be adjusted INTO the error - that is; if the riifle is shooting to the right then the sight needs to be moved to the right to correct it. Undo the screw touching the side of the blade in the direction that it needs to be moved by the appropriate amount (1 turn = 1.74 inches at 100 yards or 0.43 inches at 25 yards) then do up the opposite screw by the same amount or until the foresight blade contacts the first screw. Remove the cramp, reload and confirm the zero change by firing another group.

A scarce original tool which takes the guesswork out of zeroing a scarce rifle!
