These are original, US GI, Oil Bottles for the US .30" M1 Carbine. They also fit and were issued for the later M2 and M3 Carbines in the same series.

The M1 Carbine oil bottle served a double purpose. Not only did they carry lubricating oil for the Carbine, but by clipping into the slot in the butt of the weapon, they acted as the rear sling attachment point, the sling passing through the butt and around the oil bottle.

These original oil bottles date from WW2 (after WW2 the practice of marking the bottles with manufacturers marks ceased). They are made from steel with a dark grey Parkerised finish. The cap of the bottle unscrews to give access to the oil, and inside the cap is a steel wire for applying drips of oil to the mechanism of the weapon.

The bottles on offer here are marked on the base 'IS' (International Silver).

All of these bottles are in sound condition with no corrosion. They have been used and as such the finish is worn and ranges from 40% to 95% - see pictures for average condition.
