These are museum quality replacement copper hammer inserts for the BREN Combination Tool Mk1.

The Mk1 Combination Tool ('combi tool') was developed from the original Czech combination tool for the ZB vz 30 from which the BREN gun itself was developed. The combi tool (see pictures) was a complicated tool involving a lot of expensive machining and heat treatment and whilst being a very good tool was considered too expensive in both cost and machining time for wartime production. Production was discontinued around 1940. Despite this the tools continued to be issued as available and were a firm favourite of Armourers, being still found in their personal tools kits as late as the late 1980's when the last of the 7.62mm Bren LMGs were phased out of service. Today the tools are scarce and expensive to buy.

Part of the tool was a screw in insert made of soft copper which was used as a hammer to drive out stubborn pins etc without causing damage to the components. When the combi tools do come onto the market these days these copper inserts are often missing, or so battered as to be useless, even as illustrations of what they once were.

These reproduction copper inserts have been made using original drawings and are faithful copies of the original items, even down to the Enfield 'E in a D' log stamped into the end of the threaded part. Once the threaded socket in the combi tool has been cleaned out they screw straight in restoring the combi tool to its original specification.
