These are original US GI Armorers Parallel Pliers.

Although not dated, these pliers are of the WW2 era and were general issue to US Armorers, in addition to being issued with the special tools for use with .30" M1919 series Browning Machine Guns. They work through a clever cammed hinge so that the jaws stay parallel to each other at all times and therefore are much easier to grip with than 'normal' pliers, with far less danger of the item slipping from the jaws or being spat out at high speed never to be seen again. The jaws are cut with a diamond checker pattern which gives a superb grip, and one jaw has a groove running the length of it so that pins and wire can be held securely. In addition there is an external cutter for wire.

The pliers have been stored in grease for many years, and although the majority are apparently new and unissued once cleaned off, they may bear storage marks to the finish. The majority have a chemical black finish, although some are bright plated. The examples examined so far have stamped into the metal around the hinge pin; 'W. SCROLLHORN CO. NEW HAVEN CONN.' on one side and '-BERNARD- NO 102 - 6 1/2' on the obverse. The handles of these are also marked 'BERNARD'. Others have been found marked 'UTICA'.
