These are original issue MkIV clearing plugs (separated case extractors) for .30" Browning machine guns.

The design of these dates back to prior to 1926, and these were still on issue (to the British Army and probably others) in the early 1990's when .30" Brownings were withdrawn from British service.

The extractor is used to remove the front part of the brass cartridge case from the chamber when the back half is torn off (usually the result of incorrect headspace being set when the gun is reassembled after cleaning).

To use it the bolt is locked to the rear, the prong of the extractor is pushed into the chamber, and then, with the handle kept verticle, the bolt is allowed forward to drive the prong into the chamber fully. The bolt is then locked back and the handle used to lever the prong out of the barrel drawing the front half of the case with it.

These are in good to excellent used condition. Unit of sale 1 extractor tool.

NOTE; Some of these are marked with British 'Broad Arrow' marks, but all appear to be originally US manufactured and of earlier date than the British marks would indicate.
