Leather 'Wad Stock Bolt' for all Butt Trap Enfield Rifles.

These are leather, Wad, Stock Bolts, as fitted to all Enfield series rifles with butt traps.

The 'Wad, Stock Bolt' is a leather washer of the same diameter as the brass or plastic butt trap oil bottles supplied with the rifles. The wad was fitted at the bottom of the butt trap so as to cover the head of the stock bolt, which prevented the oil bottle knocking on the head of the stock bolt as it moved in the butt trap. This prevented the noise of a brass oil bottle tapping the steel bolt head and helped prevent the later plastic oil bottles being cracked. The small hole in the washer provided a means of hooking it out of the butt trap with a special tool provided to Armourers for the job, so that the stock bolt could be tightened or removed with the screwdriver bit provided for the purpose.
