These are original, NOS, 'Short' length Butts for the .22" Lee Enfield No8 Rifle.

Made from beech, mostly 'blond' coloured (see photos) and finished with a smooth oil finish, these butts will fit all No4 series rifles, and will fit SMLE series rifles with minor modifications to the socket part - easily achieved with a sharp chisel. The butts are 'Short' length, which is half an inch (approx 13mm) shorter than the 'Normal' length. Designed for those of shorter stature and frequently found on rifles issued to the Cadet Forces. The butts are cut for standard No4 Rifle pattern sling swivel brackets and, as can be seen in the photographs, have a flat end designed for the No8 Rifle rubber butt plate, but will take any flat faced butt plate if trimmed to profile.

Excellent, unissued condition. Some have minor water splash marks to the finish which can be readily restored with steel wool and linseed oil (see how to in the 'Articles' section of the website).
