These are original Bands, Inner, for the .303" SMLE, Rifle No1 Mk3 & 3*.

These bands are made from steel (some Australian production was made from brass or bronze). They fit around the barrel at about the midway point along its length, and dampen the barrel vibration (resonance) when the rifle is fired. They go under the handguards of the rifle and so cannot be seen when the rifle is assembled. To fit them it is required to remove the fore-end of the rifle and the foresight block.

The bands are in good used condition.

Not normally provisioned as a spare for service rifles there is no known British Army Part number for these bands. They are NOT required for rifles fitted with the Australian heavy barrel and were dispensed with on these rifles.
