These are original 'Tools, Clearing, Machine Carbine, Mk1'.

These tools were issued as accessories to the STEN MC, and probably also for the 9mm Lanchester MC, during WW2. They are designed to remove the cartridge case from the chamber of the barrel should the base (or 'head') of the case be ripped off when fired. This was usually the result of dirt or other obstruction in the chamber, which prevented the cartridge being fully chambered before it was fired. If this happened the case - now just a tube - would prevent another cartridge entering the chamber and jam the weapon. The tool was then used by inserting the jaws into the chamber through the ejection opening cover and squeezing the handles together to open the jaws. These would grip the inside walls of the seperated cartridge and allow it to be pulled clear.

These were still present in British Army REME Armourers Workshops in the 1980's for use with the Sterling SMG, although little if ever used!

These are in good used condition with various wartime dates.
