• Reproduction SMLE etc., Brass Butt Disc & Screw

These are exceptional quality reproduction butt marking discs for the Lee Enfield series of rifles up to SMLE.

Each is turned from solid brass and is supplied with an original brass fixing screw. These butt marking discs were originally fitted to all British Army and Commonwealth rifles for the purpose of being able to quickly identify the ownership of a particular weapon. Usually the disc would be stamped with Unit (3rd Foot & Mouth) Sub Unit (Elephant Battery) and a rack number. When the rifle moved between units or was sent back for overhaul it was then a simple matter of unscrewing the disc and replacing it with another. The discs were used up until the advent of the MkIII* SMLE, when they were discontinued as an economy measure to ease production.

Stock No ENFIELD 1.

Note; For details of the markings applied see Peter Laidler's excellent book 'Butt Stock Marking Discs In British Service' which may be found on the website. www.ds-militarybooks.com
