These are original, mostly new and unissued, although some have been reconditioned at the factory and show evidence of previously being fitted, 'Springs, Retaining, Bolt head' For the SMLE No1 Mk3 & 3* Rifles.

These springs fit on the right side of the rifle behind the charger bridge and prevent the bolt head from disengaging from the receiver when the bolt is operated. When stripping the rifle, the bolt head is rotated upwards with the thumb to overcome the spring so that it can be disengaged from the receiver, and thus allowing the bolt to be withdrawn from the rifle.

These springs are fitted and secured in place by the same screw that also acts as the axis pin for the sear. These screws are available seperately elsewhere in this section.
