These are original, new and unissued, 'Screws, Axis, Sear' for SMLE MkIII & III* Rifles.

These screws fit on the right side of the receiver behind the charger bridge. The screw is not normally visible as it is under the fore-end stock. The screw acts as the axis pin for the sear and also retains the 'Spring Retaining Bolt Head' in place.

These screws come with a notch cut in the tip of the shaft. The notch is there so that once fitted and fully tight, the left side wall of the bracket can be centre punched, pushing a tab of metal across into the notch to prevent the screw shaking loose. The screws are case hardened in production - hence the preformed notch as trying to file them is an unrewarding experience, unless you like shiny files with most of the teeth missing!
