These are original Magazine Spring and Followers (or Platforms) for the SMLE MkIII Rifle Magazine using the No3 Magazine Case.

The type of magazine is shown in the photographs. This magazine was the first specifically designed to be used with the Mk7 'Spitzer' bulleted ammunition. This pattern was introduced in British Army List of Changes No 15638 on 6th July, 1911.

The springs and followers are mostly NOS, or where they have been assembled and fixed together they have seen little or no use. The followers are stamped '2'. This type of follower utilised fold over tabs on the underside of the follower to secure the spring. The spring was slid into place on the underside of the follower and the tabs were then crimped tight with pliers to hold the spring. Most of these have never been crimped, but if being used in a 'live' magazine it is the work of seconds to secure them in place.
